Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: Abhaya, Anugraha, and the Ethics of Honoring the Worthy (दानश्रेष्ठता: अभय-अनुग्रह-विप्रपूजा)
यदा त्वया सभार्येण संसुप्तो न प्रबोधित: । अहं तदैव ते प्रीतोी मनसा राजसत्तम,नृपश्रेष्ठल जब पत्नीसहित तुमने मुझे सोते समय नहीं जगाया, तभी मैं तुम्हारे ऊपर मन-ही-मन बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ था
yadā tvayā sabhāryeṇa saṁsupto na prabodhitaḥ | ahaṁ tadaiva te prīto manasā rājasattama ||
Cyavana berkata: “Ketika aku sedang tidur, engkau tidak membangunkanku—walaupun engkau berada di situ bersama permaisurimu. Pada saat itulah, wahai raja yang terbaik, aku menjadi senang terhadapmu dalam hati.”
च्यवन उवाच
Respectful restraint is itself a form of dharma: not disturbing one who is asleep—especially an elder or ascetic—can be an ethical act that earns inner approval and goodwill.
Cyavana addresses a king and recalls a prior moment: the king, even while with his wife, did not wake Cyavana when he was asleep. Cyavana interprets this as considerate conduct and says it made him mentally pleased with the king.
