Educational Q&A

Bhishma emphasizes that the true power of Brahmanas lies in tapas and moral-spiritual force: it can be as formidable as royal power, and when roused it becomes difficult to resist—swift and decisive—thereby urging respect for dharma and restraint in dealing with the spiritually disciplined.

In Bhishma’s instruction within the Anushasana Parva, he is describing the formidable potency of Brahmanas, comparing their strength to that of a king who practices austerity, and characterizing them as unassailable, fierce, swift, and prompt in action.
