संधानस्य पर: कालस्तवेति च पुन: पुनः । न च मे तद् वचो मूढ: कृतवान् स सुमन्दधी: । घातयित्वेह पृथिवीं ततः स निधनं गत:
sandhānasya paraḥ kālas taveti ca punaḥ punaḥ | na ca me tad vaco mūḍhaḥ kṛtavān sa sumandadhīḥ | ghātayitveha pṛthivīṃ tataḥ sa nidhanaṃ gataḥ ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Berkali-kali aku berkata kepadanya, ‘Inilah saat yang tepat bagimu untuk berdamai.’ Namun orang yang sesat, sangat dangkal akalnya itu tidak menghiraukan nasihatku. Setelah menyebabkan bumi ini dilanda pembunuhan besar-besaran, akhirnya dia sendiri menuju kebinasaannya.”
भीष्म उवाच
Wise counsel—especially urging timely reconciliation—should not be ignored. Delusion and poor judgment that reject peace lead to widespread harm and ultimately to one’s own ruin.
Bhīṣma recalls repeatedly advising a certain person that the time for making peace had come. That person refused to follow the advice, caused great slaughter across the realm, and then met destruction himself.
