हविध्रश्न पृषध्रश्न प्रतीप: शान्तनुस्तथा । अज: प्राचीनबर्हिश्व तथेक्ष्वाकुर्महायशा:
havidhraśnaḥ pṛṣadhraśnaḥ pratīpaḥ śāntanus tathā | ajaḥ prācīnabarhiś ca tathekṣvākur mahāyaśāḥ ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Sekarang dengarlah lagi nama para raja-ṛṣi itu: Havidhraśna, Pṛṣadhraśna, Pratīpa, dan Śāntanu; demikian juga Aja, Prācīnabarhis, serta Ikṣvāku yang amat termasyhur.”
भीष्म उवाच
That remembering and reciting the names of dharmic royal sages is itself a dharma-practice: it trains the mind toward righteous ideals of kingship and grants a share in the merit associated with dharmic conduct.
Bhishma continues an extended enumeration of celebrated kings/royal sages. This verse adds several names to the list, which the chapter frames as worthy of daily remembrance and recitation.
