निर्णये वा महाबुद्धे सर्वधर्मविदां वर । प्रत्यक्षमागमो वेति कि तयो: कारणं भवेत्‌,“सम्पूर्ण धर्मज्ञोंमें श्रेष्ठ महाबुद्धिमान्‌ पितामह! धार्मिक विषयका निर्णय करनेके लिये प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाणका आश्रय लेना चाहिये या आगमका। इन दोनोंमेंसे कौन-सा प्रमाण सिद्धान्त-निर्णयमें मुख्य कारण होता है?”

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: nirṇaye vā mahābuddhe sarvadharmavidāṃ vara | pratyakṣam āgamo veti kiṃ tayoḥ kāraṇaṃ bhavet ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai yang berakal besar, terbaik antara semua yang mengetahui dharma! Apabila suatu persoalan dharma perlu diputuskan, patutkah kita bersandar pada persepsi langsung (pratyakṣa) atau pada tradisi berautoriti (āgama)? Antara keduanya, yang manakah menjadi dasar penentu untuk menetapkan kesimpulan ajaran?”
