स ददर्श तदाभ्याशे मातरं ते शुभाननाम् | तामपि स्मयमानां स पायसेनाभ्यलेपयम्
sa dadarśa tadābhyāśe mātaraṃ te śubhānanām | tām api smayamānāṃ sa pāyasena abhyalepayat ||
Ketika itu dia melihat, dekat di situ, ibumu yang berwajah elok. Dia juga berdiri sambil tersenyum; dan menurut perintah sang resi, aku turut menyapukan pāyasa pada anggota tubuh ibumu yang tersenyum itu.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined compliance with a sage’s instruction: even an intimate, domestic moment (a mother smiling nearby) is brought under the authority of dharma as expressed through the rishi’s command, emphasizing restraint and duty over personal impulse.
Vāyudeva recounts that he saw the addressee’s mother standing close by and smiling; following the sage’s order, he anointed/smeared her body as well with pāyasa (sweet rice-milk), extending the prescribed act to her too.
