Kīrtana for the Removal of Impurity
The verse foregrounds a moral-intellectual contrast that the surrounding dialogue develops: some people possess sharp reasoning, knowledge, and practical competence, yet the text invites reflection on whether such capacities are sufficient without dharma, self-control, and right orientation.
Umā (Pārvatī) addresses Maheśvara (Śiva), observing that among humans there are individuals who are highly capable—skilled in debate, knowledgeable, discerning, and adept in worldly aims—setting up her inquiry into the deeper causes and consequences of such qualities.
