त्रैविद्यो ब्राह्मणो विद्वानू न चाध्ययनजीवक: । त्रिकर्मा त्रिपरिक्रान्तो मैत्र एष स्मृतो द्विज:
traividyo brāhmaṇo vidvān na cādhyayanajīvakaḥ | trikarmā triparikrānto maitra eṣa smṛto dvijaḥ ||
Mahādeva bersabda: Seseorang benar-benar diingati sebagai seorang brāhmaṇa—yakni yang “dua kali lahir” (dvija)—apabila dia berilmu dalam tiga Veda, tidak mencari nafkah dengan mengajar atau melagukan bacaan, sentiasa melaksanakan tiga kewajipan suci (yajña, derma, dan kelakuan benar), telah melampaui tiga musuh batin (nafsu, marah, dan tamak), serta memelihara sikap persahabatan terhadap semua makhluk.
