Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
त्वया द्वादशवर्षाणि व्रती भूतेन शुष्यता । आराध्य पशुभर्तारें रुक्मिण्यां जनिता: सुता:,“आपने बारह वर्षोतक व्रतपरायण हो अपने शरीरको सुखाकर भगवान् पशुपतिकी आराधना की और रुक्मिणीदेवीके गर्भसे अनेक पुत्र उत्पन्न किये
tvayā dvādaśa-varṣāṇi vratī bhūtena śuṣyatā | ārādhya paśu-bhartāraṁ rukmiṇyāṁ janitāḥ sutāḥ ||
Vāsudeva berkata: “Selama dua belas tahun engkau hidup dalam ikrar, mengeringkan tubuhmu dengan tapa. Setelah demikian memuja Paśupati, Tuhan segala makhluk, maka melalui Rukmiṇī lahirlah putera-putera bagimu.”
वासुदेव उवाच
Steadfast observance of vows and disciplined austerity, when directed toward sincere worship, is portrayed as bearing tangible fruit—here, the blessing of progeny—while also underscoring the ethical ideal of self-control and devotion.
Vāsudeva recounts that the addressed person undertook a twelve-year vow involving bodily austerity, worshipped Paśupati (Śiva), and as a result had sons born through Rukmiṇī, highlighting the outcome of prolonged devotional practice.
