Umā’s Inquiry and the Manifestation of the Third Eye (उमा–प्रश्नः तृतीयनेत्रोत्पत्तिः)
'थोड़ी-सी तपस्या थोड़े-से दान या छोटे-मोटे नियमोंका पालन करके तुम इस लोकमें नहीं आयी हो। अत: अपनी साधनाके सम्बन्धमें सच्ची-सच्ची बात बताओ' ।। इति पृष्टा सुमनया मधुरं चारुहासिनी । शाण्डिली निभूतं वाक्यं सुमनामिदमब्रवीत्,सुमनाके इस प्रकार मधुर वाणीमें पूछनेपर मनोहर मुसकानवाली शाण्डिलीने उससे नम्रतापूर्ण शब्दोंमें इस प्रकार कहा--
iti pṛṣṭā sumanayā madhuraṃ cāru-hāsinī | śāṇḍilī nibhṛtaṃ vākyaṃ sumanām idam abravīt ||
Apabila Sumanā bertanya kepadanya dengan tutur yang manis demikian, Śāṇḍilī—yang tersenyum menawan—menjawab Sumanā dengan kata-kata yang lembut dan tertahan, bersiap untuk menyatakan dengan jujur disiplin rohani yang membawanya ke keadaan sekarang.
