Kāśī princesses taken; encounter with Śālva; Ambā’s declaration
किंतु लघ्वर्थसंयुक्त प्रियाख्यानं न मामति । प्रीणात्यतो भवान् भूयो विस्तरेण ब्रवीतु मे
kintu laghv-artha-saṁyuktaṁ priyākhyānaṁ na mām ati | prīṇāty ato bhavān bhūyo vistareṇa bravītu me ||
Janamejaya berkata: “Namun kisah yang kusayangi ini, meskipun sarat makna walau disampaikan ringkas, belum juga memuaskan hatiku sepenuhnya. Maka, ceritakanlah kepadaku sekali lagi dengan lebih terperinci. Siapakah yang tidak akan bersukacita mendengar kisah kelahiran suci para raja itu, bermula daripada Dakṣa Prajāpati dan Manu?”
जनमेजय उवाच
The verse highlights the value of attentive inquiry and the traditional esteem for sacred genealogies: hearing the origins of righteous lineages is considered purifying and spiritually pleasing, and a sincere listener seeks fuller understanding rather than settling for a mere summary.
King Janamejaya, listening to the Mahābhārata’s ancestral accounts, says that the brief telling has not satisfied him and requests the narrator to recount the story again with greater विस्तार (detail), especially the holy birth-accounts of kings beginning from Dakṣa Prajāpati and Manu.
