Origin of Droṇa and Acquisition of Martial Science
अपालयत् सर्ववर्णान् पिता पुत्रानिवौरसान् । यजमानो महायज्जैत्रद्वाणेभ्यो धनं ददौ
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
apālayat sarvavarṇān pitā putrān ivaurasān |
yajamāno mahāyajñair dvijebhyo dhanaṃ dadau ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: Baginda melindungi dan memelihara rakyat daripada segala varṇa, seperti seorang bapa membesarkan anak-anak lelakinya yang sah. Sebagai yajamāna yang menganjurkan upacara korban agung, baginda mengurniakan kekayaan kepada golongan dvija (yang “dua kali lahir”), khususnya para Brahmana.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Ideal kingship is framed as dharmic guardianship: a ruler should protect all sections of society impartially, like a father to his own children, and uphold sacred institutions through yajña and generous giving—especially supporting learned and ritual specialists.
Vaiśampāyana continues praising King Vyūṣitāśva: he is described as maintaining all varṇas with paternal care and, as a yajamāna, performing great sacrifices and distributing wealth to the dvijas.
