Adhyaya 70: आदिसर्गः—महत्-अहङ्कार-तन्मात्रा-भूतसृष्टिः, ब्रह्माण्डावरणम्, प्रजासर्गः, त्रिमूर्ति-शैवाधिष्ठानम्

वर्तमानव्यतीतानि तथैवानागतान्यपि स्मरते सर्वकार्याणि तेनासौ स्मृतिरुच्यते

vartamānavyatītāni tathaivānāgatānyapi smarate sarvakāryāṇi tenāsau smṛtirucyate

Yang dengannya seseorang mengingati segala urusan—yang kini, yang telah lalu, bahkan yang akan datang—maka itulah disebut smṛti, iaitu ingatan suci.
