Prāyaścitta for Mahāpātakas: Liquor, Theft, Sexual Transgression, Contact with the Fallen, and Homicide

कृच्छ्रं वाब्दं चरेद् विप्रश्चीरवासाः समाहितः / अश्वमेधावभृथके स्नात्वा वा शुद्ध्यते नरः

kṛcchraṃ vābdaṃ cared vipraścīravāsāḥ samāhitaḥ / aśvamedhāvabhṛthake snātvā vā śuddhyate naraḥ

Seorang brāhmaṇa hendaklah menjalani tapa Kṛcchra selama setahun, memakai pakaian daripada kulit kayu serta mengekalkan disiplin dan ketenangan batin. Atau, seseorang menjadi suci dengan mandi pada upacara mandi penutup (avabhṛtha) korban Aśvamedha.
