Dāna-dharma: Types of Charity, Worthy Recipients, Vrata-Timings, and Śiva–Viṣṇu Propitiation

कुटुम्बभक्तवसनाद् देयं यदतिरिच्यते / अन्यथा दीयते यद्धि न तद् दानं फलप्रदम्

kuṭumbabhaktavasanād deyaṃ yadatiricyate / anyathā dīyate yaddhi na tad dānaṃ phalapradam

Sesudah menyediakan keperluan rumah tangga—makanan dan pakaian—apa yang berbaki hendaklah disedekahkan. Tetapi apa yang diberi dengan cara lain, yakni dengan mengabaikan kewajipan itu, bukanlah sedekah yang menghasilkan buah rohani.
