Kriyā-yoga, the Virāṭ-Puruṣa Mapping, and the Sun-God’s Monthly Expansions
After hearing an account of the exalted conversation between Śukadeva Gosvāmī and Mahārāja Parīkṣit, Śaunaka now inquires about the sun as the expansion of the Supreme Lord. Although the sun is the king of all planets, Śrī Śaunaka is specifically interested in this effulgent globe as the expansion of Śrī Hari, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
This verse introduces that the Sun’s retinue changes month by month, appearing in distinct arrangements as a group of seven, which Śukadeva explains to King Parīkṣit.
Śaunaka and the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya wanted to hear the same Bhagavata teachings Parīkṣit heard—especially the cosmological account of Sūrya’s monthly functions and attendants.
It encourages mindful awareness of time’s sacred rhythm—seeing months and seasons as ordered by divine governance, inspiring gratitude, discipline, and devotion.
