Bali Mahārāja’s Empowerment and Conquest of Indra’s City
Prelude to Vāmana’s Petition
This verse teaches strategic patience: when circumstances are unfavorable, one should withdraw and wait for the proper time, trusting that destiny can bring a reversal to the enemy.
Bṛhaspati advised the devas to temporarily withdraw and regroup in Svarga, anticipating that the enemy’s advantage would not last and would soon be overturned by providence.
When facing a stronger opponent or a difficult situation, step back from unwise confrontation, seek a safe position, and act with timing—combining prudence with faith that situations can change.
