Chapter 376 — ब्रह्मज्ञानम्
Knowledge of Brahman

Jika tubuh bukan alat bagi perbuatan, ia akan menyerupai bahan yang lengai dan boleh berubah, dan seumpamanya. Oleh itu, mata dan indera-indera lain ialah alat; Diri bukanlah alat.
Lord Agni (in discourse to Sage Vasiṣṭha, typical Agni Purana dialogue frame)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Philosophy","secondary_vidya":"Samanya","practical_application":"Understand body and senses as instruments (karaṇa) and abide as non-instrumental Self; improves discrimination in meditation and daily action.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Indriya-karaṇatva and ātman as non-instrument","lookup_keywords":["indriya","karaṇa","deha-vikāra","ātman-akartṛ","caksur-ādi"],"quick_summary":"The body is inert and modifiable; senses like the eye are instruments for experience/action, while the Self is not an instrument and is distinct from them."}
Concept: Body and indriyas function as karaṇas; the ātman is the conscious principle, not a tool among tools.
Application: In practice, shift identity from ‘I see’ to ‘seeing occurs through the eye; I am awareness’; reduces kartṛtva/bhoktṛtva fixation.
Khanda Section: Moksha-vidya (Atma-Jnana / Sankhya-Vedanta themes)
Primary Rasa: Śānta
Secondary Rasa: Adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A schematic yet artistic depiction of the body as a mechanism: eye, ear, and other senses shown as tools; behind them a luminous, formless awareness indicating the Self as witness, not an instrument.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized human figure with highlighted indriyas as symbolic implements, luminous background silhouette for sākṣin, strong contours, minimal realism, meditative palette.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central figure with gold-embossed highlights on eye and senses as ‘karaṇa’, radiant gold aura representing ātman, ornate frame, devotional-philosophical symbolism.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clear instructional layout: labeled senses (caksus etc.) as instruments, body as inert base, separate luminous witness field; fine lines and soft shading.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, semi-scientific allegory: detailed face with emphasized eye/ear, instruments motif, subtle luminous presence behind, refined brushwork and muted tones."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Shankarabharanam","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Related Themes: Agni Purana 376 (continuation of viveka arguments)
It imparts mokṣa-vidyā: a technical distinction that the senses (indriyas) function as instruments (karaṇas), while the ātman is the non-instrumental witness, not a tool of action.
Alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts, the Agni Purana also preserves systematic philosophical instruction (ātma–deha–indriya analysis), showing its scope as a compendium of practical and liberative knowledge.
By recognizing the Self as distinct from body and senses, one reduces identification-driven karma and advances toward detachment (vairāgya) and liberation-oriented insight (jñāna).
