गोः स्वर्गादागता यस्मादिदं स्थानं मती मता । तस्माद्धि गोमतीनाम ख्यातिं लोके गमिष्यति
goḥ svargādāgatā yasmādidaṃ sthānaṃ matī matā | tasmāddhi gomatīnāma khyātiṃ loke gamiṣyati
ही ‘गो’—स्वर्गातून आलेली दिव्य गौ—अशी मानली गेली आहे; म्हणून हे स्थानही तदनुरूप पूज्य मानले जाते. त्यामुळे ‘गोमती’ हे नाव निश्चयच जगात प्रसिद्ध होईल.
