sūta uvāca | pativratā gṛhe yasya saphalaṃ tasya jīvanam | yasyāṃgacchāyayā tulyā yatkathā puṇyakāriṇī
Sūta
Listener: Śaunaka and the assembled ṛṣis
Scene: A luminous household scene: a virtuous wife stands like a protective shade over the family; the home appears serene and blessed; sages or listeners recount her story, radiating merit.
A dharmic household is sanctified by virtue, and even hearing or recounting such virtue generates puṇya.
No named tīrtha appears; the ‘mahatmya’ emphasis is on the sanctifying power of virtue within the home.
Kathā-śravaṇa/kīrtana (hearing and narrating edifying accounts) is implied as a merit-producing practice.
