brahmovāca | ya idaṃ śṛṇuyātputra śraddhayā parayā yutaḥ | dharmāraṇyasya māhātmyaṃ sarvakilbiṣanāśanam
Brahmā
Tirtha: Dharmāraṇya
Type: kshetra
Listener: (addressed) son/putra
Scene: Brahmā, serene and four-faced, instructs his son with a gesture of teaching; a palm-leaf manuscript of the Dharmāraṇya-māhātmya is present; in the background a sacred forest-kshetra with a tīrtha pond glimmers, suggesting purification through hearing.
Faithful listening to a kṣetra-māhātmya is itself a purifying spiritual practice.
Dharmāraṇya is explicitly glorified as sin-destroying.
Śravaṇa (devout listening) of the Dharmāraṇya Māhātmya is prescribed.
