It teaches that dharmic observances in sacred time (Kārtika) joined with worship and charity purify the embodied being, weakening karmic causes that manifest as suffering and disease.
Though it names Āditya worship, the Shiva Purana frames such vrata-dāna as supportive disciplines within Saguna devotion—purifying the devotee so Linga-worship and Shiva-bhakti mature into steadiness and inner clarity.
A Kārtika-Sunday observance: worship the Sun (with respectful offerings) and perform dāna of oil and cotton; as a Shaiva supplement, one may also maintain japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while observing purity and charity.
