Account of the Birth/Origin of Vyāsa
इत्युक्तो मुनिना तेन निषादस्स्वसुतां जगौ । मत्स्यगन्धाममुं बाले पारं नावा नय द्रुतम्
ityukto muninā tena niṣādassvasutāṃ jagau | matsyagandhāmamuṃ bāle pāraṃ nāvā naya drutam

Significance: Highlights the ‘tīrtha’ function of rivers and boats as instruments of transition; ethically, the niṣāda’s service becomes a karmic pivot.
It highlights how sacred destiny and divine grace often move through simple dharmic acts—service, obedience, and promptness—performed without ego, which Shaiva Siddhanta treats as a purifier of the bound soul (paśu) under Śiva’s guidance (Pati).
Though the verse is narrative, its mood supports Saguna devotion: honoring saints and serving them is treated as serving Śiva’s manifest presence in the world, a key devotional attitude that complements Linga-worship.
The takeaway is seva (reverent service) with mental japa—silently repeating “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while performing one’s duty quickly and sincerely, as an offering to Śiva.
