Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic colophon narration to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Sthala Purana: This is a colophon (iti… adhyāyaḥ) marking the closure of the chapter narrating Jalandhara’s battle within the Jalandhara-vadha cycle; it functions as textual framing rather than a sthala-origin.
Significance: Colophons traditionally support pāraṇa/śravaṇa practice: hearing/reciting with awareness of section boundaries is treated as meritorious (puṇya) and aids disciplined śravaṇa.
This is a concluding colophon marking the completion of a chapter; spiritually, it frames the battle narrative as part of Śiva’s līlā where Pati (Śiva) subdues adharma and restores dharma, reinforcing devotion and surrender as the path beyond bondage.
Though not a worship-instruction verse, it situates the listener within the Purāṇic flow that glorifies Saguna Śiva—Śiva as the active Lord who protects devotees and destroys arrogance—supporting faith in Śiva’s grace, commonly approached through Liṅga worship.
No specific rite is prescribed in this colophon; the practical takeaway is śravaṇa (devotional listening/recitation) of Śiva Purāṇa chapters with remembrance of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” cultivating bhakti and inner steadiness.
