Suta Goswami (narrating the Kailāsa teachings on Śiva’s grace in Kāśī)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Vishvanatha
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: In Kāśī, Śiva as Viśvanātha grants the ‘tāraka’ upadeśa at the moment of death; hearing the mahāmantra in the ear at prāṇāntakāla becomes the direct occasion for liberation by Śiva’s grace.
Significance: Antyeṣṭi/antakāla-smaraṇa in Kāśī is held to confer ‘parā mukti’; śravaṇa of Śiva-mantra at death is treated as a unique salvific privilege of the kṣetra.
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Antakāla (moment of death) in Kāśī as a soteriological ‘threshold’ event.
It proclaims Śiva’s special saving grace (anugraha) in Kāśī: by the power of the Mahāmantra heard at the final moment, the bound jīva is led to the highest mokṣa under Śiva’s lordship (Pati).
Kāśī is celebrated as Śiva’s own sacred domain where Saguna Śiva is worshipped as Viśveśvara; devotion to Śiva (often through liṅga-pūjā and mantra) culminates in His direct granting of liberation at death.
Mantra-śravaṇa and mantra-japa—especially the Mahāmantra/panchākṣara remembrance of Śiva—cultivated throughout life, with focused hearing/recitation at the time of death (and in Kāśī, traditionally the “ear-whispered” saving mantra).
