हे लघु सूक्त वेगवान, तेजस्वी वायूस तातडीचे सोम-आह्वान आहे—त्यांनी आपल्या नियुत्-अश्वांनी युक्त होऊन येऊन सोमाचा पहिला भाग पान करावा अशी विनंती आहे. पुढे ते इंद्र–वायू यांचे संयुक्त आवाहन बनते: त्यांनी एकाच रथावर येऊन संरक्षण व बळ द्यावे आणि उपासकांना त्यांच्या अत्यंत इच्छित, युक्त शक्ती दृढपणे प्रदान कराव्यात.

Mantra 1
वायो शुक्रो अयामि ते मध्वो अग्रं दिविष्टिषु । आ याहि सोमपीतये स्पार्हो देव नियुत्वता ॥
हे वायो, मधूचा अग्ररस मी तुझ्यासाठी, दिव्य साधनांत, घेऊन येतो. सोमपानासाठी इथे ये—हे स्पृहणीय देव—तुझ्या नियुत् (नियत) युग्मरथांसह.

इन्द्रश्च वायवेषां सोमानां पीतिमर्हथः । युवां हि यन्तीन्दवो निम्नमापो न सध्र्यक् ॥
हे इंद्रा आणि वायू! या सोम-लहरींच्या पानास तुम्ही दोघेही योग्य आहात. कारण इंदु-बिंदू अडथळारहित वेगाने तुमच्याकडेच धावतात—जसे पाणी उताराने निम्न गर्तात सरळ आपल्या नियत स्थानी जाऊन मिळते.

वायविन्द्रश्च शुष्मिणा सरथं शवसस्पती । नियुत्वन्ता न ऊतय आ यातं सोमपीतये ॥
हे वायू आणि इंद्रा! बलाचे अधिपती, तुमच्या शुष्म (पराक्रम)सह एकाच रथावर एकत्र या. नियुत्-युक्त होऊन आमच्या ऊतीस या; सोमपानासाठी या.
Mantra 4
या वां सन्ति पुरुस्पृहो नियुतो दाशुषे नरा । अस्मे ता यज्ञवाहसेन्द्रवायू नि यच्छतम् ॥
हे नर-वीर इंद्र-वायू! दाशुष (दानकर्ता)साठी तुमच्याकडे ज्या बहु-अभिलषित नियुत्-शक्ती आहेत, त्या आम्हालाही द्या. यज्ञ-वाहक इंद्र-वायू, त्या आमच्यात दृढपणे स्थापन करा.
