Concept: Tīrtha-snāna and tīrtha-sevā transmute ordinary action into great merit, comparable to costly gifts.

Application: Cultivate ‘tīrtha-sevā’ even at home: keep a daily purity practice (snāna, ācamana), visit local temples/rivers respectfully, and treat holy spaces as living presences rather than tourist sites.

FAQs

The verse praises performing abhiṣeka—ritual bathing/anointing—at a sacred location, especially upon reaching the Gaṅgā-tīrtha.

It indicates a standard Purāṇic measure of religious merit: the fruit equivalent to donating (or gaining the merit of) a thousand cows, signaling exceptionally high पुण्य (puṇya).

It teaches reverence for tīrthas and disciplined pilgrimage: approaching the Gaṅgā with service-mindedness (tīrtha-sevā) is presented as a powerful means of accruing merit and cultivating devotion.
