Viṣṇu

Concept: Truth-centered meditation and chastity/virtue make the mind invincible to Kāma; dharma fortified by satya is stronger than sensual compulsion.

Application: When tempted, return to satya (truthfulness) and a steady contemplative practice; treat desire as a messenger to be redirected, not an enemy to indulge.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

FAQs

Viṣṇu is the speaker, and the message is directed to Kāma (Smara), with reference to Indra (the ‘king of the gods’) and a virtuous woman who is being targeted.

The verse teaches that a person established in truth (satya) and fortified by steady meditation (dhyāna) cannot be easily conquered by desire (kāma).

It highlights the ethic of self-mastery: inner purity, truthfulness, and disciplined contemplation provide resilience against temptation and manipulation by passion.
