सिकता वा यथा लोके यथा वा दिवि तारका: । यथा वा वर्षतो धारा असंख्येया: सम केनचित् । तथा गणयितुं शक््या गययज्ञे न दक्षिणा:,'जैसे लोकमें बालूके कण, आकाशके तारे और बरसते हुए बादलोंकी जलधाराएँ किसीके द्वारा भी गिनी नहीं जा सकतीं, उसी प्रकार गयके यज्ञमें दी हुई दक्षिणाओंकी भी कोई गणना नहीं कर सकता था
sikatā vā yathā loke yathā vā divi tārakāḥ | yathā vā varṣato dhārā asaṅkhyeyāḥ sama kenacit | tathā gaṇayituṃ śakyā gayayajñe na dakṣiṇāḥ ||
शमठ म्हणाला—जसे जगातील वाळूचे कण, आकाशातील तारे आणि पावसात कोसळणाऱ्या जलधारा कोणालाही मोजता येत नाहीत; तसेच गयाच्या यज्ञात दिलेल्या दक्षिणांचीही गणना कोणास शक्य नव्हती।
