धर्म पूर्वे धनं मध्ये जघन्ये काममाचरेत्‌ । अहन्यनुचरेदेवमेष शास्त्रकृतो विधि:

Transliteration

dharmaṁ pūrve dhanaṁ madhye jaghanye kāmam ācaret | ahany anucared evam eṣa śāstrakṛto vidhiḥ ||

Translation

वैशंपायन म्हणाले—प्रथम धर्माचे आचरण करावे, मधल्या काळात अर्थाचा उपार्जन करावे आणि शेवटी कामाचे सेवन करावे. दिवसेंदिवस असेच वागावे—ही शास्त्रांनी घालून दिलेली विधी आहे.
