Teaching on the Qualities of the Five Elements and Sense-Control
yadi me bhagavan prītaḥ puṇḍarīka-nibhekṣaṇa, bhagavan! kamala-nayana! yadi āpa mujhpar prasanna haiṃ to merī buddhi sadā dharma, satya aura indriya-nigraham̐ meṃ lagī rahe. he mama svāmin! āpake bhajana-kā merā abhyāsa sadā banā rahe.
The verse frames divine favor not as a request for power or pleasure, but as a request for inner virtues: steadfast commitment to dharma and truth, mastery over the senses, and uninterrupted devotional practice. It presents ethical self-governance and sustained worship as the highest boons.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses the Lord with reverent epithets (“lotus-eyed”) and offers a prayer. He asks that his intellect remain anchored in righteousness and truth, that he maintain control over the senses, and that his devotion and practice of worship continue without interruption.
