Educational Q&A

The verse condemns deception and falsehood (ānṛtikatva) as adharma, presenting them as causes of far-reaching harm: personal wrongdoing is shown to generate enduring consequences, even affecting one’s lineage and its relationship to brahminical norms and social ethics.

Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates that a father, angered by his daughter’s repeated deception of many kings, pronounces a curse: her future children will be ‘abrahmāṇya’—hostile to brāhmaṇas or deviating from brahminical conduct—explicitly linking the curse to her habitual untruthfulness.
