Indra’s Distress: Slaying of Triśiras, Birth of Vṛtra, and the Origin of Yawning
इन्द्र वाच मा भैस्त्वं शीघ्रमेतद् वै कुरुष्व वचनं मम । मत्प्रसादाद्धि ते शस्त्र वजकल्पं भविष्यति
indra uvāca mā bhaiḥ tvaṁ śīghram etad vai kuruṣva vacanaṁ mama | matprasādād dhi te śastraṁ vajrakalpaṁ bhaviṣyati ||
इंद्र म्हणाला— “भिऊ नकोस, वाढई. लवकर माझी आज्ञा पाळ. माझ्या प्रसादाने तुझी ही कुऱ्हाड वज्रासारखी होईल.”
शल्य उवाच
Fear is dispelled through trust in a legitimate guiding authority and prompt performance of one’s assigned duty; divine favor (prasāda) is portrayed as transforming ordinary capacity into extraordinary effectiveness.
Indra addresses a craftsman, instructing him to quickly fulfill Indra’s command and assuring him that, through Indra’s blessing, the craftsman’s weapon—an axe—will become as powerful as Indra’s thunderbolt.
