प्रियाप्रिये सुखदु:खे च राजन्‌ निन्दाप्रशंसे च भजन्त एव । परस्त्वेनं गर्हयते5पराधे प्रशंसते साधुवृत्तं तमेव,राजन्‌! इस जगतमें प्रिय-अप्रिय, सुख-दुःख, निन्दा-प्रशंसा--ये मनुष्यको प्राप्त होते ही रहते हैं। इसीलिये लोग अपराध करनेपर अपराधीकी निन्दा करते हैं और जिसका बर्ताव उत्तम होता है, उस साधु पुरुषकी ही प्रशंसा करते हैं

priyāpriye sukhaduḥkhe ca rājan nindāpraśaṃse ca bhajanta eva |

paras tv enaṃ garhayate 'parādhe praśaṃsate sādhuvṛttaṃ tam eva, rājan ||

संजय म्हणाला—राजन्, या जगात प्रिय-अप्रिय, सुख-दुःख तसेच निंदा-प्रशंसा—हे सर्व मनुष्याला अपरिहार्यपणे भोगावेच लागते. म्हणून अपराध केल्यास लोक अपराध्याची निंदा करतात आणि ज्याचे आचरण श्रेष्ठ आहे त्या साधुपुरुषाचीच प्रशंसा करतात, राजन्.
