भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches reverential contemplation of the Supreme Lord through His names and attributes—eternality, infinitude, purity, and universal progenitorship—supporting a dharmic life grounded in devotion and recognition of the cosmic source.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and higher truths; here he lists divine epithets of Viṣṇu/ the Supreme Person, praising Him as the eternal, all-pervading origin of all beings.
