Mokṣa-dharma: Cutting the Bonds of Attachment
bhīṣma uvāca | mokṣadharmeṣu nirato laghvāhāro jitendriyaḥ | prāpnoti paramaṃ sthānaṃ yat paraṃ prakṛter dhruvam ||
Liberation is attained through steady commitment to moksha-oriented dharma: moderation in food (laghvāhāra) and mastery over the senses (jitendriya). Such inner discipline leads to the imperishable supreme state beyond prakṛti.
In the Shanti Parva’s Mokshadharma discourse, Bhishma instructs the king on the means to the highest good, emphasizing ascetic restraint and sense-control as qualifications for reaching the transcendent, deathless abode.
