धारणाद्‌ धर्ममित्याहुर्धर्मों धारयते प्रजा: । यत्‌ स्यथाद्‌ धारणसंयुक्त स धर्म इति निश्चय:

Transliteration

dhāraṇād dharmam ity āhur dharmo dhārayate prajāḥ | yat syād dhāraṇa-saṃyuktaṃ sa dharma iti niścayaḥ ||

Translation

धारणामुळेच त्याला धर्म म्हणतात; धर्मच प्रजेला धारण करतो. म्हणून जे धारणाशी संयुक्त आहे—जे प्राणांचे पोषण करते व जीवांचे रक्षण करते—तेच निश्चयाने धर्म होय. हाच धर्मशास्त्रांचा ठाम सिद्धान्त आहे.
