The verse highlights the ethical tension of kṣatriya life: prowess and pride (Duryodhana as amarṣaṇa, ‘intolerant’) meet resolute opposition (Bhīma as duḥsaha, ‘hard to withstand’). It underscores how inner dispositions—especially inability to endure correction or insult—shape the course of conflict as much as weapons do.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīmasena advanced in battle to engage Duryodhana, describing both as formidable: Duryodhana as a great archer and unyielding in temperament, and Bhīma as difficult to resist in combat.
