Renunciation and the Discipline of Action

इस प्रकार श्रीमह्ाभारत भीष्मपर्वके श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतापरवके अन्तर्गत ब्रह्मविद्या एवं योगशासत्ररूप श्रीमद्भगवद्‌गीतोपनिषद्‌, श्रीकृष्णाजुनसंवादमें सांख्ययोग नामक दूसरा अध्याय पूरा हुआ,व्यामिश्रेणेव वाक्येन बुद्धि मोहयसीव मे । तदेक॑ वद निश्चित्य येन श्रेयोडहमाप्रुयाम्‌ आप मिले हुए-से वचनोंसे मेरी बुद्धिको मानो मोहित कर रहे हैं।* इसलिये उस एक बातको निश्चित करके कहिये, जिससे मैं कल्याणको प्राप्त हो जाऊँ

arjuna uvāca | vyāmiśreṇeva vākyena buddhiṁ mohayasīva me | tad ekaṁ vada niścitya yena śreyo 'ham āpnuyām ||

अर्जुन म्हणाला—मिश्र व द्विधार्थ वाटणाऱ्या वचनांनी आपण जणू माझी बुद्धी मोहात पाडत आहात. म्हणून एकच मार्ग निश्चित करून स्पष्ट सांगा, ज्यायोगे मला परम श्रेय प्राप्त होईल.

In the opening of the Gītā’s instruction, Arjuna feels intellectually unsettled by what he perceives as blended counsel (renunciation vs. action). He therefore presses for a clear, decisive path that he can follow toward true good.
