The verse presents governance and protection as rooted in dharma: the ‘daṇḍa’ (rod of authority) symbolizes rightful discipline and order, ultimately grounded in a divine cosmic ruler who safeguards the world’s divisions (dvīpas).
Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra and describes a cosmological vision in which Prajāpati (the lord of creatures) personally upholds authority and continually protects the world’s regions, emphasizing stability and guardianship amid the broader war narrative.
