भीष्मपर्व — अध्याय ११०: पार्थभीमयोः प्रहारः तथा भीष्माभिमुखं संग्रामविस्तारः

जीवितं बहु मन्ये5हं जीवितं हाद्य दुर्लभम् । जीवितस्याद्य शेषेण चरिष्ये धर्ममुत्तमम्,“इस समय मैं जीवनको ही बहुत मानता हूँ। आज तो जीवन भी दुर्लभ हो रहा है। अबसे जीवनके जितने दिन शेष हैं, उनके द्वारा मैं उत्तम धर्मका ही आचरण करूँगा
jīvitaṃ bahu manye 'haṃ jīvitaṃ hy adya durlabham | jīvitasya 'dya śeṣeṇa cariṣye dharmam uttamam ||
संजय म्हणाला— “आता मला जीवनच फार मौल्यवान वाटते; आज जीवनही दुर्मिळ झाले आहे. आजपासून उरलेल्या आयुष्याच्या दिवसांत मी उत्तम धर्माचेच आचरण करीन।”
