स वरैश्छन्दितस्तेन नूपो वचनमत्रवीत् । सहस्रबाहुर्भूयां वै चमूमध्ये गृहेडन्यथा
sa varaiś chanditas tena nūpo vacanam abravīt | sahasrabāhur bhūyāṃ vai camūmadhye gṛhe ’nyathā ||
भीष्म म्हणाले—त्या ऋषींनी वर मागण्यास उद्युक्त केल्यावर राजा म्हणाला—“रणात, सैन्याच्या मध्यभागी, मी सहस्रबाहू होऊ दे; पण घरी अन्यथा, म्हणजे द्विभुजच राहू दे. रणभूमीवर सर्व सैनिकांनी माझ्या हजार भुजा पाहाव्यात।”
