Raivataka-giri Mahotsava and the Counsel on Subhadrā’s Marriage (रैवतके महोत्सवः — सुभद्राविवाहोपायविचारः)
वैशम्पायन उवाच एवमुक्ता महात्मानो नारदेन महर्षिणा । समयं चक्रिरे राज॑स्ते5न्योन्यवशमागता: । समक्ष तस्य देवर्षेनारदस्थामितौजस:,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! देवर्षि नारदके ऐसा कहनेपर एक-दूसरेके अधीन रहनेवाले उन अमिततेजस्वी महात्मा पाण्डवोंने देवर्षिके सामने ही यह नियम बनाया--
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: evam uktā mahātmāno nāradena maharṣiṇā | samayaṁ cakrire rājas te ’nyonyavaśam āgatāḥ | samakṣaṁ tasya devarṣer nāradasyāmitaujasaḥ ||
वैशंपायन म्हणाले—राजन् जनमेजया! महर्षी नारदांनी असे सांगितल्यावर, परस्पर संयम व मर्यादेत बांधले गेलेले ते अमिततेजस्वी महात्मे पांडव देवर्षी नारदांच्या समक्षच एक नियम ठरवून एकमत झाले.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Wise counsel should culminate in concrete ethical commitments. The Pāṇḍavas respond to Nārada’s instruction by establishing a formal rule (samaya), emphasizing restraint, mutual respect, and dharma as safeguards against discord.
After Nārada addresses the Pāṇḍavas, they collectively create an agreement in his presence. The verse functions as a transition: it records the brothers’ acceptance of guidance and their decision to bind themselves to a mutually observed regulation.
