The verse functions as a structural signpost: it highlights that certain war-episodes are morally and emotionally intense (lomaharṣaṇa) and that the epic’s narration carefully orders events—first the grave turning-point of Droṇa’s death, then the consequential release of a divine weapon—inviting reflection on how actions in war trigger escalating outcomes.
The narrator indicates the upcoming/next major sections of the Mahābhārata: the ‘Droṇavadha Parva’ (the episode of Droṇa’s killing) is to be recognized as a thrilling, hair-raising portion, and after it comes the ‘Nārāyaṇāstra-mokṣa Parva,’ describing the discharge of the Nārāyaṇa weapon.
