समन्तपञ्चक-आख्यानम् तथा अक्षौहिणी-प्रमाणनिर्णयः

अध्याया: सप्ततिरज्ञैयास्तथा चाष्टौ प्रसंख्यया । श्लोकानां द्वे सहस्ने तु पजच शलोकशतानि च,श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणो! इस पर्वमें अध्यायोंकी संख्या अठहत्तर (७८) है और श्लोकोंकी संख्या दो हजार पाँच सौ ग्यारह (२,५११) बतायी गयी है। इसके पश्चात् महत्त्वपूर्ण वनपर्वका आरम्भ होता है
adhyāyāḥ saptatir ajñaiyās tathā cāṣṭau prasaṅkhyayā | ślokānāṁ dve sahasre tu pañca ślokaśatāni ca ||
या पर्वात अध्यायांची संख्या सत्तर आणि आठ—म्हणजे एकूण अठ्ठ्याहत्तर (७८) आहे. श्लोकांची संख्या दोन हजार पाचशे अकरा (२,५११) अशी सांगितली आहे. यानंतर महत्त्वपूर्ण वनपर्व सुरू होते।
