समन्तपञ्चक-आख्यानम् तथा अक्षौहिणी-प्रमाणनिर्णयः

Samantapañcaka Narrative and the Measure of an Akṣauhiṇī

दृष्टवा तयोश्व तद्वीर्यमप्रमेयममानुषम्‌ । शड्कमानीौ पाण्डवांस्तान्‌ रामकृष्णौ महामती,महामति बलराम एवं भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्णने जब भीमसेन एवं अर्जुनके अपरिमित और अतिमानुष बल-वीर्यको देखा, तब उन्हें यह शंका हुई कि कहीं ये पाण्डव तो नहीं हैं। फिर वे दोनों उनसे मिलनेके लिये कुम्हारके घर आये। इसके पश्चात्‌ ट्रपदने 'पाँचों पाण्डवोंकी एक ही पत्नी कैसे हो सकती है'--इस सम्बन्धमें विचार-विमर्श किया

dṛṣṭvā tayoś ca tad vīryam aprameyam amānuṣam | śaṅkamānau pāṇḍavāṁs tān rāma-kṛṣṇau mahāmatī ||

भीमसेन व अर्जुन यांचे अपरिमित, अतिमानुष बल-वीर्य पाहून महामती बलराम आणि भगवान श्रीकृष्ण यांच्या मनात शंका आली की हे पांडव तर नाहीत ना. त्या संशयाने प्रेरित होऊन ते दोघे कुंभाराच्या घरी त्यांना भेटायला आले. त्यानंतर द्रुपदाने ‘पाच पांडवांची एकच पत्नी कशी होऊ शकेल’—या अभूतपूर्व प्रसंगात मर्यादा व धर्म यांविषयी विचारमंथन सुरू केले.
