Pulastya (sage)
Afterlife Stage: Naraka
Concept: Hari reveals auspicious realms to devotees and protects them at the crisis-point of karmic descent into hellish experience.
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara as śaraṇya (refuge) and anugrahakartṛ (bestower of grace) operating alongside karma; bhakti as the bridge through perilous transitions.
Application: Cultivate steady devotion and remembrance of Hari, especially in fear-laden moments; interpret suffering as karmic consequence while taking refuge in divine protection.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Type: otherworldly realms
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.7 (rishi-stutis to Hari; protection amid afterlife peril)
This verse presents Hari as the one who guides His devotees to auspicious realms and also protects them when the prospect of naraka (hellish consequence) arises—showing bhakti as a decisive shelter.
It implies two trajectories: the devotee is shown auspicious worlds by Hari, while the ordinary course may involve reaching one’s ‘share’ of naraka; divine protection can intervene for the devoted.
Cultivate steady remembrance and worship of Hari (Vishnu)—especially through ethical living and sincere devotion—so one’s post-death journey is oriented toward auspicious states rather than suffering.
