The Earth Laughs at World-Conquering Kings; Yuga-Dharma and the Remedy for Kali
yadā lobhas tv asantoṣo māno dambho ’tha matsaraḥ karmaṇāṁ cāpi kāmyānāṁ dvāparaṁ tad rajas-tamaḥ
This verse lists greed, dissatisfaction, pride, hypocrisy, envy, and increased engagement in desire-motivated ritual work as key Dvāpara-yuga symptoms, with society influenced by rajas mixed with tamas.
He explains the changing qualities of time and human conduct across the yugas so Parīkṣit can understand the spiritual challenges of the present age and the need for the appropriate path of dharma.
Use it as a diagnostic: reduce desire-driven actions, watch for pride and envy, and shift from external show to sincere devotion and inner purification through steady sādhana and truthful living.
