निशाम्यैतत् सुरगणा महेन्द्रवरुणादय: । नाध्यगच्छन्स्वयं मन्त्रैर्मन्त्रयन्तो विनिश्चितम् ॥ १७ ॥ ततो ब्रह्मसभां जग्मुर्मेरोर्मूर्धनि सर्वश: । सर्वं विज्ञापयां चक्रु: प्रणता: परमेष्ठिने ॥ १८ ॥
niśāmyaitat sura-gaṇā mahendra-varuṇādayaḥ nādhyagacchan svayaṁ mantrair mantrayanto viniścitam
श्रीशुकदेव म्हणाले—ही अवस्था पाहून इंद्र, वरुण इत्यादी देवगण आपसात विचारमंथन करू लागले; पण स्वतःच्या मंत्रणेतून कोणताही निश्चय होईना. मग सर्व देव एकत्र होऊन सुमेरू पर्वताच्या शिखरावर ब्रह्मदेवांच्या सभेत गेले; तेथे परमेष्ठी ब्रह्मांना दंडवत् प्रणाम करून सर्व वृत्तांत सांगितला।
