Chapter 185 — नवमीव्रतानि (The Observances for Navamī)
भगवान अग्नी वसिष्ठांना गौरी/दुर्गेशी संबंधित नवमी-व्रत सांगतात व भुक्ती आणि मुक्ती—दोन्ही प्रकारची सिद्धी देण्याचे स्पष्ट आश्वासन देतात. नवमीला ‘पिष्टका’ म्हटले आहे; आश्विन शुक्ल नवमीचा अचूक काळ, नक्षत्र-नियम आणि देवपूजेनंतर पीठ/पिष्टापासून बनलेल्या अन्नाचे सेवन-विधान दिले आहे. पुढे महिषमर्दिनी दुर्गेच्या राजरक्षणार्थ पूजा-विधी—देवी नऊ स्थानांत किंवा एका देवळात अधिष्ठित मानून, बहुभुज मूर्तीचे विशिष्ट आयुधांसह ध्यान. दशाक्षरी दुर्गा-रक्षा मंत्र, इतर मंत्र, अंगठ्यापासून कनिष्ठेपर्यंत न्यास, गोपनीयता व अविघ्न साधना यांवर भर आहे. आयुधपूजा, उग्र देवी-नाम, दिशांना बळी (काही पाठांत रक्त/मांस), पीठाची शत्रु-प्रतिमा निष्प्रभ करणे, रात्री मातृका व उग्ररूपांची आराधना, पंचामृत स्नान, बळी तसेच ध्वज-स्थापन व रथयात्रा—भक्ती, मूर्ती-ध्यान आणि राजधर्मरक्षण यांचे एकत्रीकरण करते।
